raw Handgun sight install
Prior to installation of sights ensure the sights are compatible with your firearm. if not sure you can Contact us for support.
a reputable gunsmith is suggested for installation of sights. Any damage to sights from improper installation is not covered under the warranty. contact us if you would like to use our professional gunsmithing services for installation.
1. Sight Pusher Install Tool (suggested) or Bench Vice/Bench Block, Hammer and non-marring Punch tool
2. Lubricating Gun oil
3. Loctite Blue 242 (front sight post install only)
4. L-Key (Provided)
5. #1 Phillips Screwdriver
6. Masking Tape
7. Q-tip and Cleaning clothes
8. isopropyl alcohol
9. Grind Stone if modification required for fitment (320 grit suggested)
1. Perform a Firearm safety check. point the firearm in safe direction. keep your finger off the trigger at all times. remove the magazine. Rack/open the slide to confirm the firearm is unloaded.
2. Field strip firearm per manufacturers instructions.
3. Remove the existing firearm sights from the slide. If unable to do so, contact a reputable gunsmith or raw sights for professional installation of the sights.
4. Mask the slide and use non-marring tools to prevent damage to the existing slide.
5. Clean the front and rear sight locations to be free of any lubricants, oils, and other debris.
1. place firearm slide in bench vise with non-marring fixture and clamp slide in place.
2. Lubricate Dovetail with firearm oil and Insert sight with finger pressure without hammer or tools.
2a. Forcing a Sight that doesn’t fit will permanently damage the firearm slide and the Sight. This will be considered as an improper installation which is nOT covered under warranty.
2b. Sights that can be inserted completely Will NOT require sight modification (proceed to Dovetail Sight – installation section)
2c. Sight Installation of 50% or more Will NOT require sight modification (proceed to Dovetail Sight – installation section)
2d. sight installation of 50% or less Will require sight modification.
2e. All modifications shall be performed by a reputable gunsmith, RAW Sights provides installation services if needed.
3. Based upon fit check, sight will need material removed for proper fitment.
3a. mask off sight to prevent scratching or damaging sight during modification.
3b. file both sides of the dovetail bottom edge with oil to remove material as required to pass fitment test.
3c. minimal material should be removed between fitment checks to ensure excess material is not removed causing a loose fit.
3d. filing dovetail may need several attempts to properly fit.
4. After achieving proper fit check, clean the sight and the dovetail area of all debris.
1. lubricate dovetail and sight with gun oil. (perform fit check prior to installation)
2a. if using sight pusher install tool follow instruction manual then proceed to step 3. (Do NOT push on upper portion of sight or damage to sight and slide may occur)
2b. if using non-marring punch tool, secure slide in bench vice or on bench block.
2c. Insert sight into slide dovetail. Using the non-marring punch, tap the dovetail portion of the sight until centered in slide. Never strike above the dovetail, this can damage the sight and slide.
3. Once the sight is centered in the slide, use the provided RAW install gauge verify the sight is properly aligned.
4. Place a small drop of Loctite blue on the setscrew and install into rear sight until hand tight. This will securely anchor the rear sight in position.
1. Insert the front sight into the front sight slide hole and verify post fits.
1a. if Sight post fits in front the sight Will NOT require modification (proceed to threaded post – installation section)
1b. if sight post does not fit the post will require modification.
1c. All modifications shall be performed by a reputable gunsmith, RAW Sights provides installation services if needed.
2. Based upon fit check, sight will need material removed for proper fitment.
2a. mask off sight to prevent scratching or damaging sight during modification.
2b. file the sides of the sight post with oil to remove material as required to pass fitment test.
2c. minimal material should be removed between fitment checks to ensure excess material is not removed causing a loose fit.
2d. filing post may need several attempts to properly fit.
3. After achieving proper fit check, clean the sight and the slide opening area of all debris.
1. perform fit check prior to installation
2. Place slide on cleaning cloth and apply Loctite blue around the front sight hole.
2. Apply small amount of Loctite blue to the front sight post.
3. Insert the front sight into the front sight slide hole.
4. Holding the front sight in place, turnover the slide and insert the provided mounting screw and hand-tighten down with #1 Phillips screwdriver.
5. Once the sight is mounted in the slide, use the provided RAW install gauge verify the sight is properly aligned.
6. Clean off excess Loctite blue using with isopropyl alcohol Q-tips and cleaning clothes.
7. loctite blue will set within 20 minutes. Allow Loctite Blue to cure for 24hours prior to use.
